Unpacking Vietnamese EFL Learners’ Deployment of Reading Test-Taking Strategies for the New TOEIC Test Format

Test-taking strategy (TTS) plays a vital role in accomplishing the tests, and many types of tests require test-takers to use TTSs differently. TOEIC (Test English for International Communication), one standardized features two main parts, viz. listening reading, requesting deploy their intensively accomplish test effectively. Reading are importance responding reading content. Nevertheless, different learning ecologies utilize dissimilarly. Therefore, this study was examine new format utilized by EFL learners at language center Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This mixed-methods employed research instruments, namely questionnaire semi-structured interview, data collection. A cohort 221 recruited answer questionnaires, 25 them were invited interviews. The SPSS software (version 26.0) used process quantitative gathered from while content analysis approach analyse qualitative collected results revealed that participants deployed TTS high frequency. Additionally, found memory compensatory strategies more frequently than cognitive, metacognitive, affective ones. From obtained findings, pedagogical implications suggested leverage quality teaching general training specific.
